Prescription drug rehabilitation

Introduction

A prescription drug, or prescription medication, is a pharmaceutical drug that legally requires a medical prescription to be dispensed by a doctor. This can be distinguished from over-the-counter drugs that can be obtained without a prescription, and illegal drugs that are sold on the streets. Addiction in its harshest form can be defined as a chronic, relapsing brain disease that is characterised by a compulsive search for and use of a certain drug, despite its harmful consequences. Addiction can be seen as a brain disease, because the drugs have changed the brain???s operation and thinking patterns.

It can be postulated that illegal drugs, like cocaine and heroin, are taken by people who have the intention to get high, while prescribed drugs are taken to heal some sort of pain, but it addicts the body without the user knowing it or wanting it to happen. The continuous use of most prescribed medicines can lead to addiction. The sooner such a person goes for prescription drug rehabilitation, the better.

Procedures

Beethoven Recovery Centre has a rehabilitation unit admitting patients of 18 years and older. Patients are always treated with integrity in a dignified manner by our friendly professionals, and are guided to a sober lifestyle by means of a full recovery programme consisting of two phases and covering a period of seven weeks.

Phase one of the prescription drug rehabilitation programme covers three intensive weeks, during which the patient undergoes tests, examinations, assessments, and evaluations by our professional team. These are necessary to create and compile an individualised and integrative treatment plan that is unique and imperative for the patient. During these weeks, the patient is also guided to commit for rehabilitation and healing. Phase two, covering the remaining four weeks, focuses on guiding the patient on how to stand up and face life again in the full sense of the word. This is intensive, but also satisfactory for the patient ??? discovering how to live life to its full measure again.

All work and no play?

The prescription drug rehabilitation is, however, not all work and no play. Group and individual therapy sessions, daily sports and recreational activities, and some alone time for contemplation all form part of our therapy.
